WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO
BE PEFC CERTIFIED?

All FIORA® products are certified by the Program for Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC). What does PEFC -certified mean, exactly? So glad you asked.

At FIORA®, we’re not only committed to our customers, we’re also committed to protecting the natural resources used to make our products. Sustainably sourced products are our promise to you,and we’ve taken real measures—putting into place supply chain and production processes—to makesure we deliver on that promise.

The PEFC is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization, and the world’s largestforest certification system. More than 300 million hectares of forest area (or 740 million acres) aremanaged in compliance with PEFC’s internationally accepted Sustainability Benchmarks—that’sroughly the size of Egypt, South Africa and Turkey combined. Forest certification systems ensuresustainable forest management by monitoring forestries, tracing and labeling forest products, andcertifying that they meet certain standards.

The PEFC works by endorsing national forest certification systems, which are developed throughmulti-stakeholder processes and tailored to local priorities and conditions. The organization isinvolved in every aspect of the forest supply chain, promoting best practices and ensuring thatforest products (materials for consumption that come from a forest) are produced in compliancewith ecological, social and ethical standards.

PEFC standards include requirements that address:
– Maintaining or enhancing biodiversity and protecting ecologically important forest areas
– Prohibition of the most hazardous chemicals and GMOs
– Recognizing the principle of free, prior and informed consent (FPIC), the UN Declaration on Indigenous People’s Rights, with provisions for consultation with local stakeholders and safeguarding the basic rights of workers

The PEFC’s Chain of Custody (CoC) certification is one of the most comprehensive and rigorousmethods available for tracking wood products from forest to final production. It involves athird-party assessment to ensure compliance with PEFC’s unique Sustainability Benchmarks (whichare consistent with international requirements) and requires that every aspect of the productionchain be traceable back to a sustainably managed forest. At FIORA®, all of our fiber suppliers areproudly Chain of Custody (CoC) certified by the PEFC.

The PEFC label is a globally trusted, registered trademark that identifies goods from sustainably managed forests. Be sure to look for it on all FIORA® toilet paper, paper towel, and tissue products.
